BQ
How ready is your brain—right now?
We live in a world of constant input, urgency, and overload.
What matters most is not what you know.
It is whether your best thinking is available in the moments that shape your work, your leadership, and your relationships.
BQ (Brain State Intelligence) describes your moment-to-moment mental readiness — your capacity to notice your brain state and regain clarity, focus, and steadiness when demands rise.
What is BQ?
BQ is a real-time indicator of cognitive readiness.
It reflects your ability to access your executive brain — especially during stress, distraction, conflict, or fatigue.
When the prefrontal cortex is active, you can:
think clearly
communicate with intention
regulate emotion
prioritize effectively
learn and adapt
When it is offline, reactivity takes over.
People interrupt more, listen less, misread situations, escalate tension, and default to habit rather than judgment — often without realizing it.
High-BQ leaders recognize the shift early and know how to reset before performance, trust, and relationships degrade.
BQ is not a personality type and not a fixed trait.
It is awareness and recovery in motion.
The Four Brain States
BQ is grounded in four common brain states people move through as pressure increases and capacity shifts:
Intentional — clear, present, and deliberate
Automatic — efficient, habitual, and task-driven
Reactive — emotionally charged, narrowed, and defensive
Depleted — exhausted, foggy, and disengaged
These are not labels.
They are signals showing whether your executive brain is online or under strain.
The goal is not to remain in one state at all times.
The goal is recognizing where you are and regaining choice.
Why BQ Matters
Modern work rarely fails because people lack intelligence, motivation, or expertise.
It fails when cognitive demand outpaces human capacity.
Under sustained load, even highly capable professionals experience reduced judgment, narrower thinking, emotional volatility, and decreased learning. Organizations often interpret this as a performance problem when it is actually a capacity problem.
BQ provides a shared language for understanding how thinking and leadership function under pressure and how work environments can support — or undermine — clarity and effectiveness.
Rather than pushing harder, BQ focuses on protecting the conditions that allow people to think, collaborate, and lead well over time.
